This includes a systematic increase in the prevalence of severe/complex disabilities among young children (age 5-14) with learning disabilities from 0.19% in 1981, to 0.21% in 1991 and 0.40% in 2001 (Emerson and Hatton, 2004) The student is required to consider the above information and analyse the implications of the increase prevalence of people with severe and complex disabilities/profound learning disabilities in relation to service provision and for learning disability nurses.
