the aim of this research is to find out what financial abuse of older person by its family member who provide substantial care to them means to them and to professionals for example social workers. -do we professionals define it differently for example as misappropriation of fund of a vulnerable person or is it mere generiosity of the older person to their family members. Do they want our intervention in such circumstances? Does family members see the assets of older person as their inheritance? -does our intervention help to protect the older person from further abuse by their family members or it exacebates the already abusive condition. -our code of practice - General Social Care Council required social workers to build the trust and confidence of service users and carers in order to establish a working relationship, Can this be possible in a situation where the carer (family member) is suspected to be abusing the older person financially? Or does social workers pretend it is not happening to keep the relationship with the carer and older person and it is treated as a family issue. -how would social workers supporting older person along side informal carers, build a working relationship while reporting a suspected financial abuse within the relationship, in order to protect the older person from any form of abuse, harm or danger, as required by General Social Care Council. -Human Right Act 1998 - individual right to family and private life. -Carers (Recognition Services) Act 1995 recognise the role of informal carers in the community. -Community Care Act 1990 was to care for people in the community to reduce cost of institutionalisation. -No Secret guidance is the only policy used to protect the older adult, there is no specific legislation protecting older adult. -This research conducted interview with four social workers who had experience of working with older people: they are -one senior care manager -one approved/senior social worker -two social worker with years of experience The findings include; -level of abuse before any intervention else treat as family issue to be sorted out within family orientation. -mental capacity of the older person to make informed decision and their preference. -they were divided on support received from other professionals on ''need to know'', two claimed there was no support while the other said that there was support from other prof. especially the police.
