Hispanic Mothers'' Experiences Raising Children with Moderate to Severe Autism Must include: 1. Historical View of Autism and include research by Kanner (1943), Asperger (1944) and the initial research from initial coining of the term in 1913,the view of autism during the psychodynamic period, it''s confusion with childhood schizophrenia, and how it was once considered to be the result of refridgerator mothers/poor parenting. A review of the autism spectrum (mild to severe) and it''s impact on the family unit (with emphasis on primary caregivers). 2. How mothers experience grieving the loss of a normal child 3. Psychological vunerability of mothers (primary caregivers) of Autistic Children 4. Specific Needs of mothers of Autistic Children 5. Psychological adjustment and Support Networks utilized by mothers of autistic children 6. Research that has been conducted on Autism and Hispanics (a brief review of the little that exists) what were barriers for hispanic mothers? what worked? 7. Relevance of study: how will this topic help further research in autism? These are the topics that must be covered. If you can add anything that might make the lit review stronger as it pertains to the topic let me know. I am open to suggestions in addition to the topics that must be covered. This is for my dissertation and it must doctoral writing at a scholarly level and include only topics relevant to the study. You can put all of the things listed above in any order that makes the most sense and flows well.
