Dear Sirs, I''m aware that each year you receive tons of applications and that, at the end of the process, only a few prove to have the drive, mindset and interpersonal skills you are searching for. On top of that, this period is one of the worst for the industry, so I am sure that joining YYY will be even tougher. But achieving ambitious results is never easy. That''s what I learnt while pursuing my consulting positions at Bain and BCG, an MBA from Wharton, a summer internship at Merrill Lynch and, earlier, as I was swimming at a professional level. In recruiting and working it''s been about deploying higher qualities of problem solving, knowledge and fit. In swimming it was a matter of training for hours and hours with the only aim to be the first to touch the end of the pool, after a competition of just a few seconds. But the driver was always the same: & amp;quot;Those who say that I cannot, will have to change their mind! & amp;quot; - So…why YYY? Money? Prestige? Or a perception of the industry as the next big step? - For sure I would be lying if I said that I would not enjoy them! But ultimately, once the money is in the bank and the name is in boldface in a newspaper, I guess that what really keeps XXX folks in the game is sort of continuous challenge. YYY represents the pinnacle of investing, where you constantly chase new opportunities of business, conceive the optimal financial solution, turn around companies in distressed situations and extract value from where there does not appear to be any. - Yeah…but why me? - The key takeaway I''d like to provide is that my experiences, business contacts, knowledge and character would represent a valuable asset for you to leverage on. Management consulting taught me that no matter the industry, the client or the project, the ultimate objective is thoughtfully and aggressively seeking for value. And with my assignments I helped my clients start up innovative ventures, develop new products, implement state of the art criteria for cost saving and consolidate businesses to unveil their synergy potential. In investment banking I proved myself to be a hard worker. Problem solving and analytical skills enabled me to successfully keep up with extensive number crunching, financial modeling and benchmarking. And the product and industry teams I worked with represented a unique environment of learning and coaching at the same time. Finally, an MBA from Wharton has been an extraordinary chance not only to strengthen my financial knowledge, but also to develop a different and more mature mindset, expand my network and identify significant areas of professional as well as personal improvement.
