Paper - A 12-15 page term paper (APA style) is required. This paper will focus on diagnosis and treatment for a specific disorder. The paper must include 10 to 12 references from professional journals. No text books, popular magazines, or other nonscholarly reference is to be used. Topics must be approved by the professor. Students are to hand in a copy of their references (the actual articles) by the specified date and an outline of their paper by the specified date. Lateness with either of these assignments will result in a penalty on the final paper grade. Papers are due at the time of class. Late papers that arrive on the day of class will drop 5 points. After that, a paper that is late drops a half-letter grade for each day that it is late. Please see Term Paper Guidelines Handout. (60 pts) Introduction: general overview of the disorder and introduction to current issues: general description of the disorder and its symptoms, issues, controversies concerning the disorder. Might include case example.II. Epidemiology: prevalence, incidence, sex difference, other demographic differences and comorbidity.III. Classification and differential diagnosis: Current classification (include DSM-IV TR criteria), subtypes and specifiers, differential diagnosis (which disorders is it often confused with). IV. Treatment: different treatment approaches to disorder. Include broad coverage of effective and typically used treatments. Remember to comment on support or lack of support for the approaches.V. Conclusions: YOUR conclusions about the disorder (not just a summary of research articles). Put together findings from your review of literature. This should not just repeat what is said is prior sections. Comment about purpose: These papers are meant to be an accurate representation of the literature in a specific disorder area and should be written from your point of view based on your reading of the literature. One goal is for you to gain a certain level of expertise in an area. An additional goal is to foster critical thinking about the current literature in the area of psychological disorders. Additional suggestions:1. Use headings - in addition to the headings suggested above you may wish to use subheading to help organize your paper.2. Be sure you have plenty of references to support your statements throughout the paper.3. Avoid quotes - summarize the result of research rather than quoting conclusions.4. Be sure to describe research in sufficient detail that the reader can understand the study, its design and subjects.5. Do not include any new information in the conclusion section or bring up new issues. Do not repeat yourself in the conclusions - rather pull together various pieces of information in the rest of the paper and arrive at conclusions. 6. The paper should follow APA format for including citations and references.The paper should be typed, double-spaced, and free of typos and errors.
