Marks will be awarded for demonstrating good understanding of the writers’ intentions. Pay attention to the reasons for & justification of the research. Marks will be awarded for identifying these. How did the authors propose to carry out their research? Marks will be awarded for understanding and how the context and the methodology fit together. What are the results of the research? Marks will be awarded for understanding and identifying the significant points. What are the authors’ conclusions? Marks will be awarded for understanding and identifying the significant points. Assessing the article*: a) What are the research intentions? Are they justified? b) How far are the context, scope and methodology appropriately matched? c) How far does the research support the conclusion? d) What background knowledge do you bring to bear in making these judgements? e) Your assessment should stand as a well-informed discussion. The requirement is less than third year level of critical appraisal. As a second year student undertaking a second assignment, you should show breadth of knowledge selectively based on the issues raised in the course and demonstrate evidence of independent research and reading. f) Marks will be awarded for appropriate and well-informed responses.
