Thesis Statement: Why was Doctor Faustus agreeable to vend his soul for vast magical powers and not use them for the good of knowledge and/or understanding the universe? Instead he uses his magical powers for the amusement of himself and others. Did evil forces cause his depraved fall from an intellectual scholar to the common comic character he portrayed, or was this inherent of his moral makeup from the beginning? I contend that his character was flawed from the beginning and his insatiable thirst for knowledge foreshadows his gluttonous nature. IMPORTANT: The paper has to be turned in exactly this way! Use MLA format, and double space with a minimum of 10 pages. No Web sources are allowed and all books should be available at a common school or town library. In the bibliography, please state editions and all relevant information such as page numbers used. Also, in the body of the paper when using a quote, state the author and the page numbers used from the book in parenthesis after the quote. If the quote is more than four lines, indent the whole quote. Assert in the first paragraph what aspect of the thesis is. What is the work about, or what does it state? Make specific references to the text by either quoting or paraphrasing it, and also try to include your sources enough but not overuse them. The paper must be literary criticisms on a literary text, not a history paper or a biographical paper.
