Gertrude and Ophelia are often read as being subservient to the men in their lives, to a fault. Some critics, however, read them as the shrewdest characters in the play. Make a case for one or the other side of this argument, focusing on both female characters, and their relationships to their husbands, fathers, brothers, and so on. Why are this females characterized the way they are? Has it something to do with a revenge? The quotations should be used as a proof and support of an argument. The context should go before inserting a quotation and an explanation follows. The only source that can be used is the tragedy & quot;Hamlet & quot; itself; other secondary sources are not permitted.
