Rajasingh Johnson I have completed my Bachelor of Physical therapy program at the Christian Medical College and Hospital, India in december 1990. I currently own my outpatient physical therapy clinic dealing with orthopedic , neurological , geriatric and pediatric patients . My undergraduate education at CMC has not only given me a certain set of skills but also helped me understand my fields of interest and my academic strengths and weaknesses. This understanding has made me realize that I have to pursue my higher education. I have many valid reasons to pursue DPT . First and foremost I want to fulfill my dream of getting a higher education in my field of interest . I see this as a golden opportunity . Secondly , I have completed one year manual therapy course in the Institute of Manual Physical Therapy (IMPT) which helped me to combine the conceptual basis of traditional physical therapy and advanced forms of therapeutic manual art. During this course my mentors encouraged me to pursue DPT program and further motivated me to seek higher education , strengthening my views . As physical therapy is leaning towards evidence based treatment approach , I wanted to learn current concepts and trends which could influence my practice greatly by bringing effective treatment outcomes . I am a member of APTA and as per APTA vision for physical therapy 2020, physical therapy will be provided by physical therapist who are doctors of physical therapy and who may be board certified specialist. Undoubtedly DPT program at Des Moines University will be a great contribution to APTA vision for 2020 and the knowledge gained from this DPT program will benefit me to be a sound clinician and to provide quality care to my patients . More over I am confident in my ability to take principal responsibility for management of my patients medical problems and successfully execute the daily tasks expected of me as a physical therapist. My work as a physical therapist taught me goals can be accomplished with persistence and determination. I believe I possess the mechanical ability, manual dexterity and leadership qualities critical in physical therapy field. As a principal and clinical coordinator in City hospital and Research Institute, I learned skills that will enable me to set priorities, delegate responsibilities and organize activities. My communication skills are good and I like expressing ideas and concepts both in oral and written form – an ideal platform for the dissemination of knowledge in my chosen field. Lastly I am a compassionate person devoted to helping and caring for others. The individualized nature of the doctoral program will definitely bring out the best in me. I hope you will take a favorable decision regarding my admission to PPDPT program and I look forward to joining the Des Moines University.
