The focus of this paper is to apply what you learned about descriptive elements to an analysis of piece of art. The art can be a painting or piece of sculpture. It can be from the Renaissance time period to present day. Choose one artist and 2 of his/her works of art. What are the similarities between these two works of art? What are the differences between these two works of art? The answers to these two questions will be focus of your essay. Try to put into words why this particular art work appeals to you, feelings and/or thoughts that it elicits or brings to mind, why you chose this art to write about, previous familiarity with this artwork or artist. Incorporate descriptive elements into your paper-images, analogies, metaphors, similes,etc. to express your experience of this work. Using the handouts from class on visual tips and steps to visual analysis-analyze the work of art asking yourself questions concerning use of light, foreground, background,etc.
