Some guidelines about web server “Software Security” that you can consider include the following: (1) Setting proper file/user permissions. E.g., limit the use of Write and Execute permissions when you configure the Web server. As part of some attacks, hackers can place files into a directory on the server and then run programs in this directory! (2) Encrypt traffic between the Web server and Clients for confidential data. E.g., you should consider whether to require “authentication” or whether to “encrypt” the communications protocol that Web server and Web clients use, use e.g. HTTPs (HTTP & SSL).
