MODULE ASSIGNMENT: This module is assessed through a 3,000 word essay. Its content should be based upon the Enquiry Based Learning (EBL) activities you, and your group, have undertaken in order to demonstrate that you have achieved the required learning outcomes of the module . Please ensure that you answer both parts of the question: (3,000 words). You are required to support your views with reflection on your EBL group work here at the University and from relevant source material relating to IPE and IPW – including sources from the reader. N.B. If you do use the format please do not use numbers, headings or bullet points. Presentation and submission of assignment 1. A brief introduction. Give an overview of the essay and demonstrate your understanding of key terms included within the question. 2. The main body. This should be sequenced logically and relate to the learning outcomes under the descriptor of Knowledge and Understanding e.g what you have learnt about IPW and any health and social care policies that relate to IPW, the concept of IPW and its relationship to user centered practice. Link the above with other learning outcomes such as what you have learnt about the benefits, barriers and difficulties associated with interprofessional collaborative working as identified within a range of academic sources. Or discuss what you have learnt about the types of knowledge, skills, attitudes and roles required by a range of professionals in health and social care. Note that you must reference your work using the Harvard system of referencing as identified within the Modular Programme Student Handbook (MPSH). 4. Analysis of your findings. Explain what you have learnt from the literature and your EBL group work. Try to relate this section to the descriptors in the learning outcomes once again e.g appreciation of power relations in the context of collaborative group work or accommodating diversity in collaborative working. You have scope to use the 1st person singular, namely “I”, in your analysis and it is strongly suggested that you support your views with referenced material e.g. Tuckman (1986) described different phases of group development and I can see that my group went through the forming, storming and norming phases which enabled us to ‘perform’. Working through the storming phase unsettled me as conflict always makes me feel uncomfortable. In the second week, when we still did not know each other very well, one group member disagreed with me saying that the Occupational Therapists (OT’s) are often expected to take on the role of Social Workers (SW’s) at ward discharge meetings. This made me feel x y z ... However, I agree with Almost (2006) that conflict, if properly understood and managed, can lead to positive outcomes. The group helped us resolve the matter by discussing the patient’s/client’s needs, interprofessional rivalry and shared roles. We all agreed that an OT was probably the best qualified to meet the patient’s social care needs if a SW was unable to be present. I see that without this conflict we would not have had this discussion which resulted in us recognizing that we needed to learn more about the contemporary roles of different health and social care practitioners. We each chose a profession to explore and we presented our findings to one another at the start of the following week. This train of thought could lead you, for example, to comment upon what you perceive to be the benefits and difficulties of EBL and/or of working with students who have different perspectives and experience from your own. Or perhaps you might decide to consider issues associated with power relations, age, life experience and/or assertiveness of individuals in your group. 4. Reflection on your contribution to the collaborative EBL process. It is suggested that you are guided by one of the many models of reflective practice e.g. Gibbs (1998) p 30. Do not to spend too much time in the descriptive phase. Showing that you can analyse, and do things differently next time around, will best demonstrate self awareness and ability to reflect as per the learning outcomes p8 under transferable skills and other attributes. 5.
