This is the case study provided Case Scenario 4 George is an 11 year old boy who is in Grade Five at the local public primary school. George has never liked school, and finds it more and more boring. He can’t concentrate on what the teacher wants him to do. He is told that his work is always messier than the other children, and that he needs to try harder. This year at school he has a friend, Jeremy. Jeremy is also getting into trouble a lot, and the teacher, Miss Johnson, is often sending them to the Principal’s office. Miss Johnson and the Principal have sent notes home to George’s parents asking them to come and talk to them, but George forgets to give them the notes. His mum and dad are often tired at the end of the day because they both work long hours, and don’t pay much attention when George moans about school. One day, his mum cleans out his school bag and finds three notes asking that they contact the Principal. She makes an appointment the very next day. She is shocked to learn about George’s behaviour. He has always been an impulsive and active boy, but she thought that this was just the way that boys are supposed to behave. She didn’t think he wasn’t different to any of the other boys in the neighbourhood. George’s mother is even more shocked when the Principal suggests that she should take George to the doctor. The Principal is very supportive, but George’s mother can’t help but wonder where she has gone wrong in caring for George.
