Write a technical report of between 10 and 12 pages of A4. The report should describe and analyse five existing mobile applications, one from each of the following categories: •educational applications – i.e., used by students and/or educational staff •medical applications – i.e., used by medical staff and/or patients •business applications – i.e., used by businesses •social networking applications •entertainment applications – this covers a broad range of end-user applications including music, video and web browsing The report should cover: -A description of the functionality offered by the applications -An explanation of how the applications work and the underlying technologies they use (e.g., file formats, protocols, operating systems, 2G and 3G technologies) -A description of how the applications differ from their desktop counterparts -Current limitations of mobile technology and how these limit the functionality of the applications Other topics you may optionally cover include: •the usability of the applications •the development platforms on which the applications were developed/programming languages used •platforms on which the applications can be run •future directions and upcoming trends •the cost of the applications You are recommended to include some screenshots and diagrams in the report and quote from a range of sources including textbooks, journals and online resources.
