This is a required component of the course. The student should read The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck and provide five examples of market structures from the story line. (Hint: Look for transactions in the story). The examples should include 1 each of the following: pure competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, monopoly, and monopsony. Each example should include a brief narrative of the story, a detailed graphical representation of the market, and a commentary about the effects of this market on the participants (the consumer and producer) and society. Each example should not exceed 2 pages, but must include a narrative, graphical details, commentaries, and references. A substantial block of time has been allocated to complete this project. As such, a comprehensive and accurate submission that demonstrates a thorough understanding of markets is anticipated. Please submit this assignment in the drop box. The drop box will analyze your paper for originality. This assignment may be completed individually, in pairs, or in groups of no more than three members. If you decide to work with others, please be mindful of the difficulties associated with collective activities. In group settings, choose the people you want to work with wisely because your grade depends on others fulfilling their obligations to the group.
