Part 1 – 1 page Select a healthcare organization. You may consider any organization as long as you have enough access to the organization and or level of understanding of that organization necessary to respond to the assignments. Note: you will not be asked to reveal any proprietary or confidential information in your reports. Most of your reports will be based on your observations. Provide a brief one page overview of the organization you have selected. Be sure to describe the reason for your selection. Part 2 – 3 pages In three pages, describe in detail the following: 1. Describe what if any MS Office applications (or competing products) are used by your organization. How are they used, by whom and what benefit do they bring to you, your coworkers, department or organization as whole? Based on what you have learned from this module, would your recommend additional applications be used? If no applications are currently used by you or your organization, then describe how they could be, who would use them, and what benefits you anticipate could be recognized from their use. 2. Do you see a benefit to using the MS Office applications outside of your current or potential work environment? What applications would use and for what purpose? The goal of this assignment is to demonstrate an understanding of the various MS Office applications and their practical application. Please be sure to fully develop on your answers, descriptions and supporting explanations. Part 3 – 3 pages In three pages, describe in detail the following: 1. To your knowledge, do you or your organization use spreadsheets or process data that would be conducive to using MS Excel? If so, please describe the data, its purpose, how frequently is modified or updated, who uses the data, and give examples of how the spreadsheet might be improved in terms of managing or reporting the data. If not, please provide an example within your work setting, or that of another organization, where MS Excel could be used to manage data. Be sure to include the purpose of the data, how a spreadsheet could be structured, how frequently it would be modified or updated, and who would use or manage the data. 2. In terms of scalability or use by many users on an enterprise basis, what if any limitations are their with respect to how an MS Excel workbook can be used to managing, sharing and processing data in comparison to a database application such as MS Access. 3. Based on what you learned from this module, describe how might you use MS Excel outside of a work environment to better manage personal data/information more efficiently and effectively? Please provide examples. The goal of this assignment is for you demonstrate a connection between the immense amounts of data that surrounding us on a daily basis, both professionally and personally, and how spreadsheet applications such as MS Excel can be used to help make that data and information more manageable. Please be sure to fully develop on your answers, descriptions and supporting explanations. Part 4 – 2 pages Identify and select an information system in your organization that uses a database. The application can be simple or complex, but it must utilize a database that is part of an overall system to collect, store, process, and disseminate information. In two to three pages, do the following: Describe the application you selected and the purpose of the database. Describe a simple table structure, including records and fields, that might be used in the database. (Note: You do not need an actual table from database. You can define what one might look like based on an input screen or report.) Explain what fields might be used as keys and indexes. Describe any limitations or constraints related to the data and how it is structured. Discuss how standardization (or the implications of not using standards) affect the quality and usefulness of the information. Part 5 – 3 pages Explain the importance of protecting patient information and confidentiality, along regulatory compliance such as HIPAA and describe the implications of each within the context of your selected organization.
