Networking 2 : Assignment1 Title: Network Technologies Task: You are to write, in the formal style of an IT manager, a report on modern data communications technologies. The finance director of your company is responsible for the implementation of IT and has read in the Financial Times that “the companies who invest wisely at the appropriate time in IT are the best financial performers”. There is a wealth of technology already being used within the company. Users of the network are able to access company resources, e.g. mail server, customer databases, personnel databases, engineering information as well as internet access. Due to his lack of technical expertise he has asked you to write a report explaining how one of the topics highlighted below can be used to benefit the business. Choose one of the following areas: • Wireless network technology Some of the areas that concern the director and should therefore be addressed in your report are: • What OSI level 1,2,3 & amp; 4 protocols are involved • What is the meaning of the terminology used • What the technology would offer the company • How it would impact the users of the network • The implications of not utilizing the technology • What the draw backs are • When is the most appropriate time to take up the technology Guidance: You will work individually on this assignment. This assignment will comprise 25% of the marks for the module. The length of this assignment is expected to be around 2000 words. This does not include diagrams, tables, references, etc. You will not be penalized for writing more but it is unlikely that it will enhance your grade. All direct sources must be clearly referenced but try to avoid lengthy verbatim quotes. You are to consider not only the technologies but also implications of implementing them in a business environment.
