Write a scientific article of about 600 words entitled ‘DNA: structure and function’. The article should use text and at least two fully labelled diagrams to explain the relationship between the structure of DNA and the following biological functions: 1) the ability of DNA to replicate; 2) the capacity of DNA to carry information. Some data about the relative proportions of the different organic bases found in the DNA of different species is supplied in Table 1. For the article you will need to: 1) Include an introduction, which outlines briefly the biological functions of DNA. 2) Describe the structure of DNA; refer to the significance of the relative proportions of the four organic bases (Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, Guanine) in the DNA within and between the following species, human, chicken, grasshopper, sea urchin, wheat, yeast, e-coli. 3) Explain how the biological functions of DNA (replication and information carrying) are made possible by the structure you have described. 4) Produce a very short concluding paragraph summarising the relationship between the structure and the functions described. The article should include sufficient detail in order to describe the essential features of the structure and functions of DNA. The processes of transcription and translation should not be included. The article should also not include discussion of the stability of DNA. The article should include at least two diagrams in your answer. Diagrams must be given titles and be referred to from the text of article. They do not count towards the word limit. Headings should not be used for each section in the article.
