Assessment 1 – Investigative Report in Organisational Change Introduction Task: Choose an organisation to be the subject of this investigative report assignment. This could be one in which you work, or another organisation with which you have some contact or could be a club or society of which you are a member. Or an organisation which you are interested in e.g. Marks and Spencer You should gain appropriate management agreement before commencing the activity. The terms of reference of your assignment should be agreed with the senior management of your chosen organisation and your tutor. Using either a hard or soft systems approach to organisational change, analyse the organisation’s current position, identify appropriate change interventions, state how you would evaluate these, and identify potential problems of the methods / interventions you have proposed. The activity may focus on a particular issue within the organisation; a particular department/unit of the organisation or the whole organisation. The report should be no more than 3000 words long, and should be logically and coherently structured, with an introduction and conclusion, and using appropriate language. All sources of information should be fully referenced (using the Harvard system). You should include an abstract of not more than 150 words (not included in the word count). You may put relevant additional materials that will not fit into your report in appendices (also not included in the word count) if you wish to refer the reader to it. The precise stages covered in this report will vary according to the approach of organisational change which you judge to be most appropriate. However, for all reports the following assessment criteria will apply: Assessment Criteria: · Level of understanding and analysis of the organisation’s current stage of development and its appropriateness to its internal and external environments; · Quality of rationale for choice of data collection/diagnosis method; · Quality of implementation of data collection/diagnosis method chosen · Level of analysis of outcomes of data collection/ diagnosis · Appropriateness of the approach to organisational change selected · Level of understanding of, and ability to apply, the approach to organisational change selected · Validity of recommended organisational change strategies · Depth of analysis of implications of recommended strategies · Clarity and coherence of report in accordance with specifications above, including spelling, sentence construction, accuracy of referencing, etc.
