The literature review requires you to review articles (try to summarise 6 ) to include in your literature review draft) The literature review is based on the research question below: Research Question: How can Environmental Health services more effectively meet the needs of Aboriginal communities? Summary: As Australia is a developed nation it is alarming that the indigenous population, which is such a large proportion of the community, are still subjected to third world conditions. Evidence indicates that there are higher rates of poor health for Indigenous Australians, then that of non indigenous Australians (Clark 1999). Though there have been large amounts of funding and strategically focus over the past several decades to improve the health status of indigenous Australians (New South Wales Health Department 2008), there is little evidence to prove that the difference in morbidity and mortality between indigenous and non indigenous Australians is decreasing. Of concern is that the indigenous people of America, Canada and New Zealand no longer show a significant disparity between the health status of indigenous and non indigenous people. Clearly this is not evident in Australia. The alarming disparity between indigenous and non indigenous people in Australia is of grave concern and evidence is indicating that little improvement is occurring (Firman & Ring 1998). As part of State and Territory government’s policies to improve indigenous health, Environmental Health Officers have played crucial roles in implementing and maintaining strategies aimed at improving the health status of these populations (New South Wales Health Department 2008). Due to such a large disparity between the health of indigenous and non indigenous Australians it is essential that the services that are being implemented by Environmental Health Officers are meeting the needs and expectations of the indigenous Australians. This research is intended to provide a multi-perspective view of ways to improve the operation of Environmental Health Workers in providing effective services to Indigenous communities, bridging the gap between the health statuses of aboriginals to that of non- aboriginal Australians. To achieve the objective of the research, qualitative research questionnaires will be undertaken by all willing Environmental Health Officers whose work involves engagement with aboriginal communities throughout Australia. Secondly, a different questioner will be conducted for elders and significant community members who wish to participate in the study. By conducting surveys of Environmental Health Officers as well as Indigenous community members, it is aimed to provide a more detailed picture of current circumstances as well as possible improvements in Environmental Health services throughout Australia. The two questioners will have some questions which are different from the other due to the objective of identifying different perspectives, as part of our endeavour to fully understand and highlight avenues to improve current practices and policies. The surveys will focus on past experience, difficulties and challenges experienced of the Environmental Health Officer and community. Both surveys will be focused on a qualitative research. The survey for the environmental Health Officers will be sent out to all Health Officers which aboriginal communities are under there jurisdiction. Conversely the questioner for the Indigenous participants will be conducted as an interview format, with a member of the research committee being present. What types of literature should be included in my literature review? Journal articles, Books, Conference proceedings, Government/corporate reports ,Newspapers ,Magazines, Theses, Internet
