A fair amount of criticism has been levied at the theories of lifespan development. Freud''s psychoanalytic theory and Erikson''s stage theory have been criticized as being male-centered. In contrast, Daniel Levinson has investigated both adult male and female development, and has concluded that they are quite similar. Carol Gilligan, on the other hand, argues that female lifespan development is quite different from male lifespan development. Once the above has been considered, take Carol Gilligan’s stance and discuss Gilligan’s influence on a psychologist when counseling an individual. Also briefly discuss how Gilligan''s theory affects a psychologist that agrees with Gilligan. Be sure to support all ideas presented in your paper.
