Assignments 1) Individual: Essay #1 – Autobiography and Change a) Following the directions in chapter 2 of Axelrod & amp; Cooper, you will write an autobiographical essay about a significant event or person in your life. To add narrative pace and significance, choose a topic that involves change. i) Change can involve choices made, life’s turning points, rites of passage, or even culture shock experiences. (1) You can write about how a person influenced your personality to change. (2) You could write about how making a difficult choice involved making a change. (3) Some changes are physical changes, such as moving, which then may result in you becoming more mature or flexible. (4) Stages of status are revealed in rites of passage, such as a voting for the first time or getting a driver’s license or celebrating a 21st birthday. ii) Change can also be demonstrated by the ways an event or person influenced you in a positive way. b) The topic should be one that you feel comfortable presenting to others and that will lead readers to reflect on their own lives or on the differences between their personal experiences and your own. Present your experience dramatically and vividly so that readers can imagine what it was like for you. Through a careful choice of words and details, convey the autobiographical significance of this event or person. c) Requirements: i) The essay should be 1000-1250 words long, double-spaced. ii) Your essay should meet the qualities described in chapter Two of Axelrod & amp; Cooper. d) This week: prepare a rough draft of your autobiography based on the above specifications.
