This is my bias interpretation of an Old Testament text in the NRSV Bible, the Book of Amos. The paper will ask questions like: Who wrote the book of Amos? The date of the book of Amos, the situation of the text, who is the original audience in this text, whose side is God on in this text? What is the ‘Good News’ in this text? And, when I preach this text who am I empowering or depowering? Finally, How does this text undermine the interests of capitalism?The assignment is HOW WOULD YOU PREACH A TEXT (i.e. Amos 2.6) TO A RESISTANT ADUDIENCE? My persepective audience is loan officers giving home loans to low income families. Using Amos 2:6 as my main point of discussion and 7 sources from Liberation theologian and or social ethics, I will discuss how Amos 2:6 cautions against bad lending practices. I''m speaking about this topic because I want to liberate poor working class families from a type of capitalistic slavery debt.
