The Research Project consists of: The learner identifying a self-selected educational psychology topic of interest and researching the topic using scholarly journals. The learner is requested to state the reason for the choice of the research topic, respond to stated questions regarding the topic, and provide applications for practical work and learning applications. For example, perhaps the learner is interested in behavioral modification for children having ADHD. From the educational psychology and educational literature it may be that a developing teacher may assert that this new learning could be used to enhance the learning of children in a classroom situation. Or, on the other hand, the social worker may determine that this new learning may be helpful in development intervention strategies for some of their potential clients. The topic to be explored should have a limited scope or defined specific area. The learner will appropriately cite all sources using APA guidelines and provide a written abstract of the article. A summary of the findings from the research activity and a communication of the meaning of the findings to the learner completes the written process. Note this is not a paper. It is a research project in which the learner identifies a topic, finds five articles on that topic, writes an annotated bibliography of it and the summarizes the major concepts. Make sure that all numbered sections have a complete response. Approach Utilize the following guides in developing your Research Report. Select a limited topic area to be researched. Brief Introduction: state why this specific topic was chosen (be complete). [0.5 points] Find five (5) articles/reports in professional/scholarly journals in educational psychology and education. Respond to the following items for each article. [20 points total – this section] § Name of the article including the use of the complete bibliographic citation for each article, using APA format. § Summary/abstract of the article (sometimes it is helpful to ask yourself the following questions in synthesizing the information: who; what (was done); how (was it done); what were the findings; contributions (findings that may have been made to new information on the topic area, applications etc.). § Statements(s) supporting how, specifically, this article contributed to your knowledge of the selected topic area. Be brief, but fully explain. § Your critical opinion regarding the worth of the article, findings (Was it an article that helped support the selected topic area? Was it well written? Did it reveal new ideas, findings, etc., regarding the topic area?) § What new learning took place as a result of reading this article? In this section synthesis of the content from the five articles is developed into a summary of the major concepts in the readings. Summarize the findings from the overall research (using the learning from each of the articles and the statement of contribution (the last four bullets above). [6 points] § Description: topic; why selected; what was done; any barriers encountered; be complete. § What was found overall ( general statements of the findings) § Key points from the findings, (it may be helpful to list them). § An evaluation if the research as conducted supported the selected topic area. § Knowledge, skills, insights that were gained State two applications for each of the three areas, using the new learning and other Course knowledge, the research articles to your: [1.5 points] § Program of studies § Personal growth § Current role: for example your work, as a student, as a parent-.professional-working of your consideration.
