This is a paper for Senior Seminar (if you''ve ever heard of that). It needs to take both sides of the issue and argue them thoroughly. There needs to be two claims and counterclaims (claims taking one side and counterclaims taking the other). There also have to be two minimum aspects of the Theory of Knowledge areas. The areas are ethics, sciences, history, and the arts. The suggested prewriting sketch they gave us has this: Background information needed for reader to understand issue - intro various sides of issue - Two (minimum knowledge aspects introduced - How do these aspects link to the issue - Explanation of how knowledge aspects will be used to analyze the issue Thesis Statement (construct theses with these bits): Perspectives of issue stated – Ethics of issue explicit – minimum two aspects of knowledge embedded in wording Claim 1 (and support for claim 1) – Counterclaim 1 (and support for counterclaim 1) – Possible links between aspects? Theory of knowledge implications – ‘k issues’ – find fault/problem/bias – (the negatives) with the counterclaim and its support (*I’m not sure what they mean by ‘k issues’*) – Possible links between ToK aspects & issue? – support for your ToK analysis? – State validity of K claims based on analysis/discussion. (*the next part is the same as the last except it’s for claim & counterclaim 2) Restate thesis – observations/insights (synthesize the ToK aspects used in the analysis and both the claims and counterclaims – Observations/insights on ‘truth’ relative to issue (what bits of truth can be found in both sides of the discussion?) – Position statement (in light of your analysis, what is your position regarding the issue?) - Observations/insights on ‘knowledge’ relative to issue (how do these bits of truth constitute the knowledge you now have of the issue as a whole?) – Final synthesis and non-biased/balanced/thought provoking ending.
