Nontraditional students enroll in colleges that are accessible and affordable and are more likely to enroll in two year institutions more often than four year. (Hsaio,1992; Anderson & amp;amp;amp; Bowman,1991) Choy (2001) points out that in 1995-1996, 34% of students entering the nation’s four-year and 53% of students at two year college were first generation students. As more first generation students enroll in community college, it is essential to redesign retention models and evaluate data to enhance retention of the new student. Statement of the Problem According to the United States Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census (2000), students who graduate from high school will earn $22,272 per year and college graduates will have an initial potential earning of $43,630 per year. While, it is evident that a college degree can enhance personal earning capacity for a student. Nontraditional students face external and internal challenges and are less likely to obtain a college degree (Glass & amp; Garrett, 1995). Pre-existing data is accurately obtained by each of the colleges and Higher Education Board. Participants will honestly and accurately respond to surveys. This study will assist administrators, faculty, and staff in recruiting Hispanic first generation students.
