This assignment is a reflective account of two competencies devised, negotiated and achieved on a nursing management ''internship'' placement of five and a half months. The focus should be the individual competencies. Clearly explain reasons for why you chose to include these competencies in your portfolio. The rationale also needs to include the professional choice of considerations that support your choice of competencies(staff nurse job description, NMC code of conduct). The rationale is integral to the reflective process that needs to be explicit and supported by literature. Focus on learning experience NOT theory underpinning practice. In analysing the process of development of competencies it is essential that commentary is reflective rather than descriptive, i.e more than just an account of what you have done. Justify the evidence that supports the competencies in relation to professional considerations and ''best practice''.Make explicit your learning and how you have developed personally and professionally. The focus of this section is the learning experience. How successful have I been in achieving competencies and how do I Know (sources, types of evidence, feedback)? What objective and subjective data have I used to judge and evaluate performance during internship? How has this prepared me for transition to qualified nurse? What have I learnt that will help in future role? Identify areas of achievement and areas for further development discussed within both a personal and professional context with reference to appropriate theory. Competency 1) Recognise the role of the outreach nursing team in promoting patient education relating to their care and treatment. Competency 2) Demonstrate knowledge underpinning practice in relation to the process of completing the pre-operative checklist for patients undergoing general anaesthetic.
