This week you are to write a 5 paragraph persuasive essay. You must also include an outline with this essay. Please follow the format below for your outline and your essay. Choose a topic you feel strongly about. The more emotional, the better! This will give you a chance to use your critical thinking skills to persuade the reader. The 1st paragraph: Introduction This is known as the introduction. It begins with an “Attention-Getting” Opener. You want to “grab” the reader’s attention. Then, preview your key points. Tell the reader what reasons you are going to address in the following paragraphs. The last sentence of your first paragraph is your thesis. Your thesis is your conclusion to the issue. Finish the first paragraph by stating your thesis. The 2nd paragraph: Body This paragraph will focus on your first supporting point. Begin by stating your reason. Tell the reader why you feel this reason is valid. Give statistics, explain rationale, and use logic. This is the meat of your argument. Make sure you put enough information here to convince the reader that this is a valid reason to support your conclusion! The 3rd paragraph: Body This paragraph will focus on your second supporting point. Begin by stating your reason. Tell the reader why you feel this reason is valid. Give statistics, explain rationale, and use logic. This is the meat of your argument. Once again, make sure you put enough information here to convince the reader that this is a valid reason to support your conclusion! The 4th paragraph: Body This paragraph will focus on the opposing view of your argument. Begin by stating reasons that many people have a different view. One by one, provide logical evidence as to why those views are not valid. Do not list a view if you cannot refute it. Use statistics, rationale, and logic to convince your reader that the opposing view is not valid. (You may reverse the order of the body if you wish. Some choose to start with the opposing view and follow with the two supporting reasons. Read page 380 for more information on this). The 5th paragraph: Conclusion Begin the last paragraph by restating your thesis (your viewpoint of the argument). Review the key points that support your opinion. End this paragraph with a call to action. That means you tell the reader to accept your viewpoint based on the information you have provided. End this paragraph with a clincher. That is a sentence that makes an impact on the reader and forces the reader to take a stand. Hopefully, your stand if the argument is successful!!! Outline Example Title: I. Introduction: A.
