1: Start your report in ''memo'' format (that is, with the four standard memo headings), directed to me. Set the body of the report in ''technical'' format (that is, Summary I Background I Discussion I Conclusions). 2: Your task in this report is to select and examine key forms of aviation communication as they are shown in Buck''s book. Such forms of communication can take place between • pilot and A TC • pilot and crew-member • pilot and mechanic • pilot and meteorologist • pilot and Chief Pilot or other member of Flight Operations • flight instructor and student • pilot and passenger • other? 3: Try to focus on three or four forms, and organize the ''Discussion'' section around them. Find clear examples of each form in Buck''s book, and comment on how important they are (whether in Buck''s career, or on a particular flight) and how successful. -This means that you need to show why a certain kind of communication matters in Buck''s life or on a particular flight-and possibly (at times) what mistakes or misunderstandings occur during an attempt at communication, and the bad effects this can have. Also: look for any places where Buck himself comments on how important it is, in aviation, to communicate effectively-and point out these observations of his carefully. 4: Include a page reference in brackets after each quotation from the book (e.g., 117). Do not use footnotes of endnotes. Avoid long quotes-i.e., anything over 25 words, unless you can show it is absolutely necessary to quote a long passage. It is your wise thoughts on each quoted example that matter most in this report. 5: Write from 750 to 1000 words-double-spaced, this time; indent at the start of each paragraph.
